One night, in a full-circle moment, our Slade Party of 4 married a long-time dream of owning a coffee house with the desire to provide a deeper purpose for the youth at Henson’s orphanage. Thus, The Orphanage Coffee Project was born!

Through the compassionate partnership of a local Honduran farmer known as Mr. Miyagi, we have planted a portion of our Woodlands Coffee Roasters & Cafe coffee crop at our son’s former orphanage. Mr. Miyagi trains the apprentices at his coffee plantation. These “classrooms” provide the youth of Orphanage Emmanuel an invaluable education in “all the ways of coffee.” The Orphanage Coffee Project is a pathway to freedom, a phoenix from the ashes of brokenness. The youth are taught a trade which will enable them to break the chains of generational poverty. These apprentices will be equipped to support both themselves and their families. They are learning how to grow their futures, create hope, and build dreams.
